WHY LOS ANGELES?
Los Angeles is a diverse, urban city with the largest Korean American population outside of the Korean Peninsula. It is rich with history of marginalized communities creating new opportunities in liminal spaces.
This city holds stories of bridge-builders, translating and connecting with both the Korean peninsula and global movements for peace and solidarity. Ahn Chang Ho, a prominent Korean independence activist, resided and mobilized people near Shatto Gallery in Bunker Hill. L.A. also holds a painful history of division and conflict for Korean Americans- the 1992 L.A.
Uprising/429 to name one. It is a place that knows pain and resilience of the Korean diaspora.
